I don't know about you, but it seems like it rains every time I go camping. I don't just mean the last couple of times, I mean every time in my life. I have learned to be prepared for wet weather even if it's not in the forecast. And it would hurt for you to make the same preparations. Believe me, you will never be in a situation where you wish you hadn't brought the rain gear.
The first order of business when camping in wet weather is keeping yourself dry. A waterproof hat with a 360-degree brim will keep the rain off the back of your neck. A waterproof jacket is also a great help. But make sure it has some sort of breathable fabric; otherwise, you'll be just as soaked with sweat. Round out your ensemble with some rain pains and waterproof shoes. Ever wondered what Gore-Tex is for? This is precisely what it is for. It stops the passage of water but not air, so you stay dry and ventilated.
Your tent may be rated as waterproof, but if there is a way in, the rain will find it. Prepare for the trip by running seam sealer around all the tent seams. If rain is a near certainty, you might want to add a tarp suspended over your tent to withstand the bulk of the rain. Dig a trench around your tent to channel water away and keep it from pooling under your tent. Don't forget to drag some firewood under your tarp as well. The only thing worse than being wet, is to be wet and cold with no way to build a fire.
If the rain persists, then consider taking a break from the outdoors and heading for nearby indoor attractions. Sometimes you need to accept that it was an ill-fated weekend for camping and find some enjoyment under a roof.
