Great Popper

5.0 / 5.0

I did not have high hopes when I bought this, thought maybe it was a gimmick, but b/c we love popcorn so much, thought I should give it a try camping. Incredibly impressed! We just sprayed some non stick cooking spray on both sides, added 1/4 cup of kernels, then shook it over the fire. Takes about five minutes (and pretty constant shaking) to pop, but not one single kernel burned, and almost all of it popped--a better performance than my hot air popper at home. I am so glad I decided to try it out! A great addition to our camping equipment!

Great Popcorn Every Time!

4.0 / 5.0

This has been great. I've not tried it over a campfire yet; I've only given it a go on the kitchen range (electric). It does a wonderful job, and I have the advantage of knowing exactly what's in the popcorn I pop (not so with standard microwave popcorn). Even though the popper is non-stick, burned kernels will still stick if you don't keep it in motion whilst popping. This can be significantly reduced by using a bit of oil (which doubles as a flavoring agent). You'll probably spend about 7 minutes making popcorn, as the popper has to heat up before the popping starts. Picture one of those Jiffy Pop things you can get at the store, only re-usable (to reiterate: only tried this on an electric range; probably much faster over a fire). Oh, and the capacity is a bit lacking: you can pop enough popcorn easily for 2 or 3 people, but it'd almost certainly take multiple batches if you were really on a camping trip with other folks.

Overall, I'd recommend this popper to pretty much anyone (as long as you need not worry about a bunch of capacity).

Eat to Live

I just had the worst energy bar. I don't know why I still buy this crap. I've heard that you're better off hauling Snickers bars than the overpriced REI food so I decided to find out. Mark Twight ( soooo dreamy) suggests consuming 200 Cal per hour while mountaineering in order to replenish depleted glycogen stores and avoid hitting the wall. Ideally 60-70% of this should come from carbs and the remainder from fat and protein. Here's the breakdown: Snickers Weight: 58.7g 280 Cal 14g

20 Unique Holiday Gifts

For those of you who despise “typical holiday gifts” like multi-tools and candle sets, I’ve listed a bunch of stuff from my favorite sites that are not typical gifts. You can be sure there wont be any dupes under the tree with this stuff.   Spoon Sisters has a ton of really cool (and ingenius) things.
